Puerto Galera is not as popular for expats as other major resorts and cities in the Philippines in respect of a place to retire to , but still has lots to offer. Again , as with all destinations in the Philippines , there are great differences regarding the atmposphere and practicalities of living in certain locations.
Having spoken to a number of Westerners that have already settled in Puerto Galera , it is possible to live there and have a happy and good lifestyle. Because Puerto Galera doesnt have Shopping Malls , a big choice of Banks , and other facilities that British take for granted on a day to day basis , it will mean a little adjustment to Philippine life.
The mainland is only just over an hour away by boat where all the facilities you will require are available. and Manilla is approximatley 4 hours away including the boat trip.
There are no high rise apartment buildings , or new subdivisons and housing is at a premium but are available to the committed researcher. Land is available though for you to build your own dream home, but you will have to marry a filippina in order to take this avenue. Not a bad price to pay for a little peace of heaven. In return you will be living in a beautiful part of the world , which is very popular with tourists that spend thousands of pounds each year , just to spend 2 weeks there.
