Getting Around PUERTO GALERA
Puerto Galera is a relativley small place on the Oriental side of the island of Mindoro. Therefore it is quite easy to get around. Although there are no taxis to speak of there are car and drivers for hire as well as Jeepney and Motortricycle. Also motorbike riders are to found near to the market offering a taxi type service. , though think long and hard before using these from a saftey point of view.
Sabang which is the center for bars etc is easily navigated on foot. If you arrive there by Banca Ferry you can carry your bags to your accomodation, but usually the hotel/ resort will have a representitive meet you at the boat.
When getting the Banca style ferry at
Sabang you might need to take a small rowboat thats loaded with clients
and baggage and 'punted' the few yeards to the Ferry. This usually
happens when the tide is low and the ferry cant get right into the
shore.. ( See above photo)
White Beach is also a busy place with beach parties bars and karaoke in the evening during the summer months. To get here you can travel by land but many hire a private Banca which will also bring you back.
Other beaches along the coast are also best ,or only, accessed by boat. Such as Coco Beach , Long Beach , Sto Nino and Haligi Beach.
If you are visiting any of the inland tourist attractions like the falls etc , then you can join an organised tour or hire a jeepney or guide to take you there.
