f) ---- Living in Paradise (MANILLA)
Manila is a very popular destination with British and other Westerners wanting to relocate to the Philippines.
Manila was voted this year by an influencial financial Institution in the USA as the 3rd Cheapest city to live in the world.
Because a foriegner isnt allowed to own land in the Philippines ( see our Law & You page ), but CAN own Apartments , Manila is popular because of the big choice of property should you wish the City lifestyle at a price thats very affordable for UK and other Western Ex Pats.
The specifications of apartments can be very high in the new developments in Manila, but obviously great care must be taken when making any investment in property anywhere in the world including the UK , so the Philippines is no different. Because you will be dealing with completley different property buying systems and laws , it is always best to firstly visit as many areas as possible for as long as possible before you decide. Then employ a good lawyer to check ownership , leases etc . Best to get referrerals from expats that have lived there for a while as this can save you much heartache and thousands of pounds in the long run.
If you want city living with access to all the amenities and beach living isnt your thing then Manila is a place you could consider.
On the less attracive side as with any major city , Manila does suffer from heavy traffic , polution and and a certain amount of crime. amd the pace of life is a lot faster than in the provinces , but in our opinion having travelled for many years around the Philppines and Manila in particular if you use common sense , take on board the different culture , and learn about your new enviroment and embrace it , you will be rewarded with a happy and very affordable lifestyle.

There are many apartments and houses to rent in Manila but these are obviously more expensive than out in the provinces. Again , checking the lease and the area are most important. This is a favourite option for many expats , especially for the first year or so until you find your way around, get used to the Philippine culture , and if your having a place built , you can keep an eye that everything is being completed to your satisfaction.Check out our other pages about Manila to give you a balanced , detailed prospective of what it may be like to live there.
