.Many areas of the Philippines such as Subic Bay, Palawan and sites such as the Banaue Rice Terraces in the mountains of Ifugao ( a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are evidence that eco - toursim can play a part in sustaining the Philippine culture and the world eco-system if enough money and thought are evident and forthcoming.

The Philippine culture depends on a successful eco system so that the locals can have a sustainable lifestyle in the future.

The Philippines, like many other countries throughout the world has realised that we all have to protect and sustain the environment we live in . Eco – Tourism is becoming THE buzz word in holiday availability and provision.

The Philippines has many schemes throughout the islands geared up to improve and protect the rich marine life from damage to coral reefs from such things as harmful fishing methods amongst others.

Also the inland areas and animals , some of which are endangered , are now benefiting from a stricter approach from the Government regarding illegal logging and pollution , but there is still a long way to go.

We at Your Philippines are going to play our part with eco based tour packages and info , so that , as tourists, our customers can play their part in sustaining this beautiful part of the world.

There are more coral reefs in the Philippines than in Australia, it has the 2nd deepest ocean in the world and many of the fish are not found anywhere else in the world.
The Whale shark is undergoing a protection and study regime by THE WHALE SHARK PROJECT which has been developed by the Shark Trust in collaboration with Project Aware Foundation which was founded by PADI ( Professional Association of Diving Instructors). This encourages divers to log and report sightings of the Whale Shark . It also has a code of practice that asks divers to respect the space of a Whale Shark and not to interact too closely as to effect its behaviour.
Blast fishing using dynamite has been outlawed in order to preserve stocks of fish and protect the coral reefs.
There are tours available with nature and eco protection being the main theme with tree planting etc . These are sure to grow over the coming years and we intend to include some of these tours in our holiday packages. We will also be offering Bird Watching holidays soon…. WATCH THIS SPACE.
On the land , pollution, poor farming practices, and illegal logging has taken its toll on the eco – system over the years. With signs that the government sponsored initiatives are starting to have a small effect , it is hoped that with more awareness, finance, and understanding , the beautiful inland areas , along with the marine environment will blossom and be there for all to enjoy for many generations to come.

The largest Philippine wild animal is the Tamaraw, a species of buffalo

 is similar to the Carabao. It is found only on Mindoro Island.
On Calauit Island , Palawan, there is the biggest game preserve and wildlife sanctuary in the Philippines.
Of the 500 known species of Coral in the world , 488 are found in the Philippines.
The smallest primate in the world is found mostly in Bohol. Also known as the Midget Monkey, the Tarsier is only 4 – 5 inches in size with a tail that’s longer that its body, It has huge eyes which makes it a favourite with adults and children alike.
The Philippine Eagle , otherwise known as the Monkey Eating Eagle because monkeys are amongst its diet along with Flying Lemurs, Large Snakes, Civet Cats and Hornbills.

The Worlds smallest hoofed animal is the Philippine Mouse Dear or its correct name of the PILANDOK. It measures only 30 centimetres to its shoulder and has a pig like snout. It doesn’t have antlers like most dear. It protects itself with its tusk like teeth. It is so small that its legs are the size of a pencil. It is an endangered species.
