CHURCHES
Religion is a very important feature of Filippino life , and the churches are a must see as you travel around the islands. The fantastic architecture and ornately designed ceilings and frescos make for a welcome peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of the city or the hot sun. Always remember these are places of worship and treat them accordingly.
WAR MEMORIALS
The second world war features heavily in the history of Philippines with hard fighting and much suffering of the local people. General MacArthur is a revered figure ,especially in Leyte in the Eastern Visayas, where the largest naval battle in human histury took place . On Red beach , just south of Tacloban ,
the islands main city , is a monument to Macarthur and his men in the form of giant statues depicting their return landing to liberate the Philippines of the Japanese invaders. Over many years the Philippines has been home to many different nationalities and the historic sites are testament to these.
CORREGIDOR - Known as ‘The Rock’ is situated at the entrance to Manila Bay. Although a small island , it saw vicious and heroic fighting between a combined force of Filippino and American troops against the Japanese in WW2.
You can take a day trip there that takes in the old barracks, museum , gun emplacements etc. The highlight being the tunnel constructed to house offices , hospitals , and used as a communication base etc.
SITES OF NATURAL BEAUTY
Besides the many beautiful ladies that reside in the Philippines, the beautiful and sometimes rugged scenery is as equally pleasing to the eye. Areas such as Tagatay north of Manila with its panoramic views over Taal Lake and the volcano ( Trips can be arranged onto the lake and volcano). Chocolate Hills on Bohol and the many waterfalls throughout the islands one of which is the Katibawasan Falls on Camiguin Island 20 km off the north coast of mainland Mindanao are fantastic places to visit.
The hanging gardens and ancient rice terraces in Kalinga province are also well worth a visit.

The Taoist Temple at Lahug in Cebu City is a wonderful place to visit where you can ask for a wish and offer a prayer by taking part in a brief ceremony . The Monks will show you how. It also has grerat views over Cebu City
